Barking Dog Control Collars

Return to Previous Page
There are three types of bark control collar options available on the market: static correction collars, citronella or spray collar, and the ultrasonic outdoor bark control/sonic products. At DogMaster, we stock the biggest and best range of anti barking collars in NZ, including the popular Garmin and Dogtra bark control collars.

Static Pulse Anti Barking collar - Best Solution
The static bark control collar is the best form of bark deterrent for all breeds of dog. These models are very sophisticated and deliver a very humane, gentle stimulation to the dog to eliminate unwanted barking behaviors. Think small carrot not a big stick approach. Most static correction anti bark collars have multiple levels of output. The output is adjustable automatically or manually to suit different dogs.

Automatic:

The automatic barking collar for dogs controls the levels of output itself. It starts from the lowest level of stimulation and if the dog does not stop barking, it will increase the level itself every 30 seconds until the dog stops barking. This means it finds the best output level for your dog and stop there.

Manual adjustable:

This means you have the control of the output. It is great when you have a smart and stubborn dog. The collar goes straight to the levels you’ve set so it stops dog from barking straight away instead of going up through all the levels to find the best level each time the dog barks.

Bark Odometer - Garmin's new Bark Limiter's contain a feature that no other make or model has. It tells you how many activations the collar has had/how many times the dog has been barking. So if you are at work, or out shopping, you can soon find out if your dog has been testing the collar.

Safety features :

Most static barking collars have built in safety switch to shut off the collar in a certain period of time to avoid over correction.

How much voltage or power is delivered by a static bark collar?     ANSWER: About 2 volts @ 20 Milli-amps.

The stimulus is triggered by the vocal chords and it is incredibly easy to use. Your dog quickly learns to avoid the nuisance barking and modifies his behavior accordingly. Many customers and veterinarians have reported that dogs become more content with their surroundings.

Every dog displays different behavior and within the Garmin, Dogtra, DMT and Num'axes range, we have methods designed to solve even the most stubborn barker or large dog breeds.

Spray Anti Barking Collar - Good Solution

When the dog barks, a citronella or spray collar emits a scented spray in or near the dog nose/snout. This style of bark collar has about 70% success rate, in particular with scent driven dogs.

Sonic collar or Ultrasonic bark control devices - Less Effective than Static or Spray

Basic operation of ultrasonic devices is that every time a dog barks, the device will emit an ultrasonic or sonic sound that majority of dogs dislike. The dogs then figure out that the sound follows their barking. In order to avoid the annoying sound, they are more inclined to reduce their nuisance barking. This type of bark control device is not suited for stubborn breeds or stubborn individual dogs.

With all this in mind, we recommend that you contact us prior to selecting an ultrasonic or citronella spray product, so that we can advise as to which system is going to be better suited to your situation.
